Aims
We are an informal group with a passion for growing food. There
is a management commitee which meets up whenever necessary but we
like to keep things running in as relaxed and organic a manner as
possible as we find this to be to most people's liking. Formal meetings
take place maybe 3 or 4 times a year. On workdays we engage in discussion
and decision making between all those present, and ideas and suggestions
from everyone are taken into account. Generally the more experienced
growers will decide the day's jobs but we encourage and accomodate
the newcomer's fresh viewpoint.
We operate around a central principle of running a cooperative
urban garden which demonstrates, promotes, educates, and advocates
for high quality food growing all year round. This is carried out
within the wider aims of enviromental and economic sustainability,
and health and support for all the community involved.
School Visits
We run regular weekly gardening classes with several local schools
now. Over the last 5 years we have built up 100's of hours of experience
teaching around food growing, allowing children a chance to learn
new skills and gain more confidence. They also benefit from an improved
familiarity with their local landscape and its ecology, whilst enjoying
time outside of the classroom. We are able to tailor a visit to
suit any type of learner. Group sizes can vary but are usually not
more than 20 people. We can design to work across the curriculum
and can meet a wide range of learning outcomes both during and after
school hours.
